Only USA offering Common Sense Solutions to VA Problems

Our veterans need to be given testing for cancer regardless of age, where early detection can save lives.. Many of our veterans primarily served in an area that is a presumptive cause of cancer. Vietnam

Here is the way it is, and as a result, thousands of veterans have died.

Veterans Health Library

"The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) advises that people at average risk for colorectal cancer start screening at age 45 and continue through age 75. From age 76 through age 85, the decision to screen should be based on the person's overall health and past screening results. The USPSTF doesn't recommend screening for colorectal cancer in people aged 86 or older."

I offer the following personal opinion. Colonoscopy should not be stopped at age 75.Reason for my opinion.

"Stage 1 means the cancer has grown beyond the innermost lining of the colon but is still confined within the colon wall. Stage 2 means the cancer has spread to the outer layers of the colon wall, possibly extending to nearby tissues or organs, but not yet to lymph nodes."

"For Stage 1 colon cancer, the primary treatment is typically surgery to remove the tumor, potentially with lymph node removal, and no further treatment is usually needed."

At the age of 81, I experienced symptoms that led to a colonoscopy, six years after the VA had stopped providing this screening. The results were shocking-I was diagnosed with stage 3 colon cancer. One of the oncologists informed me that the size of the tumor indicated it had been growing for 5 to 6 years.

It's important to note that the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) advises that from age 76 through age 85, the decision to screen should be based on the person's overall health and past screening results.

Let my experience help you and motivate the VA to recognize the importance of early detection of cancer. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of our veterans.
